Multiple Teams · South Summit Sets New Record, Takes Third at State Track Meet

The 2016 high school state track meet was held May 20 and 21st at the Clarence Robison track at BYU. Finishing impressive high school careers were seniors Jordyn Crandall, Brady Bess, Isaac Tillett, Alex Stockley, Porter Fitzgerald, Mason Gines, James Scow, and Christian Neuenschwander.  Tillett earned the most points for the team with a first in the 400m and 200m, and a whisker close 2nd in the 100m, along with his anchor leg on the record setting 4×400 team.  Stockley placed no less than third in all four of his events, and Bess was a top seven finisher in all of his.  Scow, Gines, and freshman Claire Iverson all placed in the top nine in high jump with Gines also finishing in eighth place in long jump.  PR’s were achieved by hardworking Crandall in the shot put with 28′ 10″ and Abby Laswell in the 800m.  Other state qualifiers rounding out the sprint and distance events were Chaylee Larson, Ashley Stockley, and Emmy Heywood.

The boys’ sprint medley relay team, consisting of Jared Dansie, Parker Grajek, Jackson Dean, and Hagen Miles, put points on the board with their fifth place finish, and the 4×100 team took first, . The 4×400 relay team made history at the meet with a new 2A state record.  Brady Bess, Porter Fitzgerald, Alex Stockley, and Isaac Tillett ran an excellent time of 3:24.93, beating the previous record which was set fifteen years ago by North Summit.
