Multiple Teams · Wildcat Track & Field at State

The South Summit Boys Track team made a good showing at state, scoring 31 points, second to North Summit’s 41 but ahead of the other 3 teams in Region 16 and 9th of the 18 2A teams qualifying to participate.  Parker Grajek earned the biggest chunk of those points with his 4th place finishes in both the 110m and 330m Hurdles, along with Kael, Jared and Hagen for 3rd place in the 4x100m relay.  Another few points came from Parker’s 6th place finish in the high jump, earning medals in each of his 4 events.

The 4×400 relay team of Logan, Jared, Hagen and Jackson also nabbed a podium spot with their 3rd place finish and 3:32 time, slashing their previous best by 6 seconds.  The 2-2-4-8 Sprint Medley team of Jared, Hagen, Jackson and Sam added 2 more points with their 7th place finish, and Sophomore Logan Davis brings his first (but probably not last) medal home with 5th in the 330m Hurdles.

Also competing at state in field events were Freshmen Dylan Yturralde in the javelin, Wes Jensen in the high jump, and Senior Jackson Dean in the long jump, just missing the finals by a quarter of an inch but jumping an impressive 19-00 feet.

Coaches Mike Grajek, Karen Runke, Emily Foard, David McCluskey, and Cassandra Willis all had a great time working with the team and watching them put their all into the season.  Hoping for more runners and throwers next year, we’ll work to qualify racers in individual events also, though SS has had great success in relays.  Coach Grajek is also hoping they will add a new event next year, the Tiger Tail Toss.
