South Summit XC held their home meet at High Star Ranch on Wed. August 23rd. What will likely be the toughest course of the season, it wound through the sage brush decked hills on mostly single track trails usually reserved for mountain biking. Thanks to High Star Ranch for the great venue, truly putting the country into cross-country!

South Summit High School’s cross country team is off to a great season. In this meet, the girls raced first. As the girls walked over to the start line, all the guys came over to wish them good luck. You get this pit in your stomach feeling, nervous for them as you anticipate the starting gunshot. The race began and off they went. They stuck together for awhile as a group, but slowly started finishing the race one by one. In the end they really had no reason to be nervous.
As the boys turn rolled around, they got the same nervous feeling as every racer does. They’re off! One thing you will see on every racer’s face is when that finish line is it sight, no racer’s spot is safe. The one thing they have in common is they all want to beat the guy next to them! Every wildcat competitor finished that race with pride and a big smile. To see their team mates at the end cheering them on and jumping around and just all so happy really gets your adrenaline running!
With this team we will accomplish many outstanding things. More Freshmen have joined than we had Seniors graduate, building a stronger team. As they say, there is no “I” in team because we are all in this together! We may be small, but those other teams better watch out because our wildcats are tough and fearless.
