The South Summit Cross Country team had a successful region meet Wednesday. The team did not qualify, but Braxton Booth and Koven Card earned 2 of the 3 individual spots for the state meet. The course was about two and a half laps around Big Cottonwood Park, twisting every direction possible with a ton of very steep hills. After the meet, the team stopped at Five Guys to enjoy some well earned burgers, hot dogs, and shakes.
Almost all of the runners finished with a new personal record, despite how difficult the course was. This season’s PR’s include Braxton Booth with a time of 17:40, Koven Card (18:07), Sam Galati (18:20), Stuart Card (18:28), Jared Leary (19:39), Brevin Riehl (20:25), Denny Simmons (21:16), Logan Davis (21:46), Keaton Crandall (21:50), Parker Booth (22:19), and Julio Campos (23:16).
Senior Vicky Perona, our exchange student from Italy, ended her season with a best time of 23:16. The rest of the Lady XC Wildcats this year are Callie Woolstenhulme (24:24), Katelyn Lewis (25:22), Katelyn Simmons (26:42), Jillian Tillett (29:10), and Elizabeth Sampson (31:14).
Be sure to catch Koven and Braxton at the Utah State XC meet at Sugar House Park on October 18th.
The cross country banquet is also coming up. It will be held on Monday, October 30, at Cattlemen’s Hall in Oakley at 6:00 pm. Please come and support the team for food, photos, memories, and remarks from the team and coaches.
